GLASSCO, James Russell, Jr.
James Russell Glassco, Jr. died November 13, 2012 at Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, VA. He was born Jan. 17, 1925 in St. Louis, MO, the son of the late James R. Glassco and Leta Heim Glassco. He served four years in the US Navy during WWII and graduated from Trinity College in l950. From l974 until his retirement in l993 he was Treasurer of the US Postal Service. From 1953 until 1960 he held positions with the Anderson Clayton Company and the National Bank of Commerce in Houston, TX. From l960 to l974 he worked for the Aetna Life and Casualty Co. in Hartford. His retirement provided time for his serious participation in Masters athletics, including the National Senior Games where he won many medals in swimming events. He also held, and still holds, many Virginia age group records in swimming. In addition, he enjoyed and competed in golf, tennis and bridge. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Brainard Glassco of McLean, VA; and three sons: James M. and Benjamin B. of McLean, and William S. of Tiverton, RI. He was predeceased by a daughter, Elizabeth, in 2002.
