John E. Lukach, 66, of West Hartford, passed away Sunday, (August 25, 2013) at his home, after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Hartford on August 30, 1946 to the late Frank and Astrid (Johnson) Lukach. John worked for C L & P, a division of Northeast Utilities, in the underground department as a heavy equipment operator for 35 years. He proudly served his country stateside for six years as a member of an Army Reserve medical unit during the Vietnam war era. His most cherished memories were the summers he spent with his family and friends camping at Hammonassett State Park. He was an avid gardener and took great pride in his vegetable and flower gardens. He also enjoyed boating and fishing, spending many summers in Niantic and Rhode Island. Another hobby of his was restoring old cars; he spent several years meticulously restoring his 1930 Model A Ford and 1955 Chevy. John will be deeply missed and forever loved by his best friend and life partner Margaret Murphy of Plainville. He will also be missed and loved by his two sons, Dustin Lukach of Dunkirk New York, his wife Marcie and their sons Adam and Owen; two little boys who made him a very proud and happy grandpa; and his son John Lukach Jr. of Alexandria VA. John was recently predeceased by his brother Robert Lukach of Farmington who was survived by his wife Joan Lukach and Robert's sons William and Jason Lukach of Farmington. He also leaves his brother Thomas Lukach and his wife Lynn of Manchester and their two children Kristen and Jeffrey Lukach. He also leaves several step-nieces and nephews.
