Khiene Chanthavong, 78, of East Hartford, beloved husband of Bouasavanh (Keochan) Chanthavong, passed away peacefully on Saturday, (April 20, 2013) at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Laos to the late Tong and Nali Chanthavong, he migrated to the US with his family in 1980. Khiene was an officer of the "Secret Army" of Laotian soldiers who assisted the US during the Vietnam War. He was always very proud of his military service and continued that service in his community, often volunteering with his local temple and community. But above all he loved his family who will miss him dearly. Besides his wife Bouasavanh, he is survived by his sons, Pat Chanthavong and his wife Pon, and Panh Chanthavong and his wife Teng; his daughters Manivanh Chanthavong Khantikone and her husband Johnny, and Khannie Chanthavong, all of East Hartford; eight loving grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a close cousin Singthong Ounthongdy.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 27 at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 26 from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. For online condolences please visit
