SCARINGE, Lawrence "Larry"
Lawrence "Larry" Scaringe passed away at Southington Care Center on March 7, 2013 at the age of 70 after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease and cancer. He is survived by Betty, his loving wife of 48 years. They were married in Plainville on Oct. 10, 1964. Larry is predeceased his mother, Veronica (Kacinskas) Scaringe and father, Vincent Scaringe. Larry is lovingly remembered by his son, Michael Scaringe and wife, Susan of Newington and his daughter, Lori Durocher and her husband, Stephen of Southington. He will also be missed by his four loving grandchildren, Matthew Scaringe, Emily Durocher, Joshua Scaringe, and Brian "Bo" Durocher. He also leaves his twin sister, Joyce Blake of Southington and her husband, Fran as well as several nieces and nephews. Larry was born in New Britain on July 2, 1942. He graduated from Plainville High School in 1960. He then served in the United States Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He worked at Fafnir Bearing in New Britain for 25 years. He then worked for 10 years as the head of security at New Britain High School. After retiring, he worked for Briarwood College part-time for three years. Larry enjoyed spending his time attending his grandchildren's girls' and boys' basketball games, boys' and girls' volleyball matches, marching band performances, orchestra and band concerts. He was a very devoted and loving "Papa" who would never miss a chance to attend any of his grandchildren's special events—sometimes happily keeping him running from school to school to cheer on from the stands and encourage his four grandchildren. Papa very much loved Matt, Emmy, Josh and Brian (Bo). Larry spent a great deal of his time while raising his family going on family camping trips with special friends, neighbors, and their families. Lasting friendships and memories were made during the 18 years he camped. Larry enjoyed traveling to Aruba for warm, sunny beach vacations and inevitably within hours would make new friends with whom they would stay connected for years to come. Larry will be remembered for his kind, giving spirit that shone through to all that he worked with, cared for and loved. He was often a man of few words but louder actions. He will be remembered for his gift of connecting to people no matter what their age or background—he always found a way to make you feel comfortable. Those who knew him best knew of his acts of kindness and outspoken funny ways.
