KELLERMAN, Dr. Leo D.
Dr. Leo D. Kellerman, 95, of Douglaston, NY, died of natural causes at the Avon home of his daughter, Leonora Thramann. The child of Russian immigrants, Leo attended Columbia College, class of 36 and Yale Medical School, class of 42. He practiced ophthalmology in Queens, NY and volunteered his medical services in Kenya, East Africa and St. Kitts/Nevis, West Indies. During retirement, he beautified his hometown by planting 700 trees over 20 years. Leo enjoyed his extended visits to Avon, attending his grandsons' sports, school and music activities. Leo is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth (Zand) Kellerman; sons Edmund Kellerman (Sarjit) and Philip Kellerman of Gainesville, FL; daughter, Leonora Thramann(William) of Avon, CT; grandchildren include Michael and William Thramann, Dillon Kellerman and Bianca Vasilek. Leo leaves his only and beloved niece, Karen Kellerman (Peter Arakas) of Farmington, CT. He was predeceased by a son, Andrew Kellerman and brother Edgar. Leo loved the years he studied at Yale and has returned to Yale as a willed body donation so they can study him.
