Lois Dunn Clark

CLARK, Lois Dunn Lois Dunn Clark, born May 23, 1917, died Tuesday (October 12, 2004). She was the only child of Richard Pasco and Sarah Brown Dunn, a lifelong resident of Yalesville and a lifelong member of the Yalesville Methodist Church. Mrs. Clark was a well known and accomplished pianist, organist and choral director having served many CT churches as Organist and Choral Director, including Congregational churches in Wallingford, Farmington, Plainville and Litchfield, also at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Yalesville. She was Organist and Choral Director of Prospect Methodist Church in Bristol for 26 years and directed the Farmington Valley Choral society for 20 years. She directed the Wallingford Choral Society formed in 1970 as part of Wallingford's Tercentenary Celebration. In addition to her choral directing and church work, Lois Clark had many private piano and organ pupils in Bristol and her home in Yalesville. Lois Dunn Clark graduated from Lyman Hall High School, class of 1934, and studied piano and organ with Frederick Hill of Meriden. She went on to study under the late Dr. Hugh Porter, former head of sacred music at Union Theological Seminary, and also under the nationally famous organist, Carl Weinrich. She studied choral directing at Julliard School of Music, Colby College and the Hartt School of Music. She also studied piano in New York under Sasha Gorodnitsky. She was elected a "Colleague" of the American Guild of Organists in 1940. She is survived by her first cousins, Beverly Dunn Simpson of Southington; Jack Beare of Cornwall, England; Muriel Rawlings and Shirley Kearney of Australia and Hugh Jackson of New Zealand; also Alexander Brown of Wallingford; other cousins include, Frederick Loomis of Atlantic Beach, FL; Rodney Loomis of Yalesville; Elizabeth Norfolk of Mansfield; Nancy Prisk of Winchester, MA and Jane Solak of Moodus. Funeral services will be held at the Hubbard Memorial Chapel of Walnut Grove Cemetery, 817 Old Colony Road, Meriden, on Friday, October 15, at 10 a.m. There will be no calling hours. There will be a memorial service in celebration of the life, especially the musical life of Lois Dunn Clark at Prospect Methodist Church in Bristol at a future date. The Rev. William Barnes will officiate. Former students and choir members will be invited to provide the music and share memories.
