Margaret Elizabeth "Peggy" (Holmes) Adams

ADAMS, Margaret "Peggy" Elizabeth (Holmes) Margaret "Peggy" Elizabeth (Holmes) Adams, 89, of Rocky Hill died February 6, 2009, at the home of her daughter, Linda Adams in St. Petersburg, FL, with her family by her side. Peggy was the wife of the late George L. Adams Jr. She was born in Boston August 10, 1919 to Edward and Alice Holmes. Her family moved to Rocky Hill in 1933. Peggy represented Connecticut in the 1935 Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City. Peggy graduated from Wethersfield HS in 1937. She and George were wed in 1939 at the Rocky Hill Congregational Church. Peggy loved being a stay-at-home mother. Her greatest joy was being with her family. She helped organize the first teen center in Rocky Hill. The Lions Club International presented her with the Outstanding Citizens Award for improving recreational and youth services. Peggy was a lifetime member of the American Legion Ladies Auxilliary Post 123, the Republican Womens Club and the Rocky Hill Police Womens Auxilliary. She stayed involved in the Miss America Pageant as a judge and chaperone to Miss Connecticut contestants. She was employed by the Cora J. Belden Library for 20 yrs. Our wonderful mom leaves three sons: George "Luke" (Michelle) of Rocky Hill, Gary Lee of St. Petersburg, FL, Terry Edward of Oak Is., NC, and daughter Linda Joy of St. Petersburg, FL. Grandma was proud of her grandchildren: Blaine Matthew (Elise) Adams of Phoenix, AZ, Kaely Raegan Adams and dear friend, David of Niantic, Leanna (Carl) Seymour of St. Petersburg, FL, John Adams and Carolyn Adams of St. Petersburg, FL, Maggie Adams of Hillsborough, NC, and Keith and Scott Gervase of East Hartford. A special blessings are great-grandchildren: Elijah and Careana Seymour of St. Petersburg, FL and Zoe Elizabeth Adams of Phoenix. Peggy is predeceased by her parents and brother Edward A. Holmes. She leaves her brother William F. Holmes, sisters-in-law Rita Adams and Bernice Holmes and also many precious nephews and nieces. Family and friends will gather at The Rocky Hill Congregational Church, 805 Main St. on Sat. Feb. 21 from 10:30-12:30 with Memorial Service at 12:30. Burial will be immediately following at Old Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Peggy & George Adams Scholarship Fund at the church.
