Marilyn F. Gadzik

Marilyn "Maril" (Failing) Gadzik, age 77, of Avon, passed away on April 28, 2014. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter Gadzik, her parents Daniel and Marion Failing, and her sister, Jean Fellows. She was born and raised on a farm in Herkimer, NY and remained a farm girl at heart the rest of her life. Maril leaves behind two sons and their spouses: David and Susan Longfritz, of Stowe, VT ; and Eric and Jeanine Longfritz of Simsbury. She was loved and admired by her grandchildren, Allie, Annie, Andrew, and Julie Longfritz. She also leaves her brother Larry Failing, his wife Joan and many nieces and nephews. Maril was a school teacher in Avon for 31 years touching the lives of thousands of students in the Roaring Brook, Towpath and Pine Grove elementary schools. She was always an athlete from her days as the pitcher on the State College of Oneonta softball team, to the Avon Bowling league and, most recently, the Avon Senior Center shuffleboard and Wii bowling teams. Maril whistled every day of her life, loved the Cape, and paced her family room for every UCONN men's and women's basketball game. She loved playing cards with her friends and volunteering her time at the West Avon Congregational Church and the Avon Senior Center. Visiting hours will be held at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon, Friday May 9, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at the West Avon Congregational Church, 280 Country Club Road, Avon.
