SOBEL, Mark WILSON, Joan Mark Sobel and his wife Joan Wilson, both 56, of South Windsor, CT and Estero, FL died Thursday, (May 8, 2008) as a result of a tragic plane accident. They were returning to Connecticut for the summer when their plane went down in North Carolina. They were married for thirty years and residents of South Windsor since 1984. Mark was born February 4, 1952 in Brooklyn, NY. He is the son of Elaine and the late Fred Sobel. He graduated from Clark University earning a degree in Mathematics. Mark has spent his entire career as an actuary. In 1993, he started his own actuarial consulting firm, Financial Risk Analysts, LLC based in Vernon, CT. Mark had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. He was an accomplished private pilot as well as flight instructor. Mark was an athlete always enjoying a competitive game of racquetball or golf. His other interests included chess, bridge, scuba diving and motorcycling. Besides his mother Elaine, Mark is survived by his son Jason and daughter-in-law Sarah of San Francisco, CA, his daughter Laine of Naples, FL; his sister Meryl, brother-in-law Len Baum and niece Melissa of Princeton Jet, NJ. Joan was born in Queens, NY on February 6, 1952, the daughter of the late Albert and Lillian Wilson. She was also predeceased by her father's third wife Ann. She graduated from Emerson College in Boston and later completed two Master's degrees; one in Education and one in Child and Family Counseling. Joan grew up working in her parents department store where she developed a keen sense of understanding people. She turned this talent into a lifetime of nurturing and healing, a gift for those she touched. She was an exceptionally spiritual person who saw beauty and light in everyone. But the center of her life was her two beloved children, Jason and Laine. Besides her children, Joan is survived by two brothers, Charles and his wife Anita of Newington, CT and their children Nathaniel, Naomi and Jose; a brother Jeff of Colorado and his son Jacob. Both Joan and Mark leave behind dozens of extremely close and treasured friends who will miss them deeply. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Ados Israel Cemetery at the corner of Tower Ave. and Waverly St. in Hartford with Rabbi Shlomo Yaffe officiating. The Hebrew Funeral Association, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, CT 06119, is in charge of arrangements.
