SANDSTROM, Mary (Vontell)

Mary (Vontell) Sandstrom, 79, of Bristol, widow of Milton G. Sandstrom, died Saturday, (November 10, 2012) at Bristol Hospital. She was born August 17, 1933 in Bristol, and was a daughter of the late Eugene and Sadie (Reid) Vontell. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church, and was the Cook at St. Joseph Rectory for 20 years before her retirement. She was very active at St. Joseph Church, including serving on the committee that was instrumental in starting Bingo at the church to benefit St. Joseph School. She not only worked the Bingo at St. Joseph, but also worked Bingo at the Plainville VFW and at the Bristol Elks Lodge. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Gwen and David Champagne of Bristol; a son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Pamela Sandstrom also of Bristol; two brothers, Robert Vontell of Terryville and James Vontell of CA; two sisters, Pauline Tessman of Bristol, and Bette Ann Gut of Ocala, FL; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Eugene Vontell, Jr.
The funeral will be held Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. from DuPont Funeral Home, 25 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, followed by a mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol. A calling hour will be held Thursday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
