ABRAMEK, Michael W. "Pop"
Michael W. "Pop" Abramek, 83, of Manchester and formerly of Newington, passed away peacefully at home Friday (January 2, 2004) surrounded by his loving family. He showed his true strength over an eight year battle with Alzheimer's disease. Michael was a man with an enormous heart that generated through his family. He was the son of the late Benny and Anna Abramek. He leaves his devoted wife of 52 years, Evelyn (Maxtutis) Abramek; three daughters and sons-in-law, Bernadette and Robert Seymour of East Hartford, Debra and Russell Olints of South Windsor, Sheila and Justin Cyr of Tolland; five grandsons, all of whom were the apple of his eye, Steven and David Saunders of Tolland, Michael and Justin Seymour of East Hartford, and Kevin Olints of South Windsor; a beloved sister, Frances Traskos of Vernon; several nieces and nephews and extended family members and friends. Michael was retired from the Travelers Ins., Company where he was employed as a master electrician in the Print Shop for 34 years. He was a graduate of the University of Hartford's Ward Technical College and was veteran of World War II, serving as a Tech Sergeant in the Radar Repair Unit of the United States Army. He was a longtime communicant of S.S. Cyril & Methodius Church in Hartford prior to moving to Manchester. He was a member of the Polish Legion of American Veterans Post # 51. Dad was a most patient, loving man with a great sense of humor. He was our angel on earth now watching over us from heaven in our Lord's arms. The family would like to give special thanks to the Jefferson House Adult Daycare of East Hartford, the North Central Hospice of Vernon, especially Karen, Michael, Gail, Linda and all of the nurses and aides that were so devoted to him and the family and a special thanks to Dr. Zagieboylo. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 7, at 9:15 a.m. at the Watkins Funeral Home, 142 East Center St., Manchester. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Bridget Church, 80 Main St., Manchester. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the North Central Hospice Care, 8 Keynote Dr., Vernon, CT 06066.
