ADAMS, Newell B. Newell Burton Adams, 85, lifetime Wethersfield resident, passed away peacefully Friday, (June 9, 2006). He was the beloved husband of Rita (Phenix) Adams. Born in Wethersfield on July 14, 1920, he was the son of George L. Adams, Sr. and Florence (Bowers) Adams. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Wethersfield High School. He spent his professional career as a machinist and an inspector at Pratt & Whitney Small Tool and Chandler Evans, retiring in 1983 after 42 years of faithful service. He fought many fires as a dedicated member of the Wethersfield Fire Department, Co. #1 for over 50 years. He was an active member of the First Church of Christ in Old Wethersfield for sixty years and was also a member of the Griswoldville Chapel. Besides Rita, his wife of 53 years, he is survived by many devoted nieces and nephews, who each will cherish the loving memories of their dear uncle. He also leaves many grandnieces, grandnephews and many close friends. He was predeceased by his siblings, Marion Adams Ladd, Ellsworth T. Adams, George L. Adams, Jr., and Ruth Adams Hine. Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 13, at 11 a.m. at the First Church of Christ, 259 Main St., Wethersfield. Everyone is respectfully asked to go directly to church Tuesday morning. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. Calling hours will be TODAY, from 4-7p.m. at the Glastonbury Funeral Home, 450 New London Turnpike, Glastonbury (Rte 2East, Exit 8, Hebron Ave). In lieu of flowers, donations in Burt's memory may be made to the WVFA Scholarship Fund, c/o WFD, Company One, 171 Main St., Wethersfield, CT 06109. Burt's family would like to express their thanks to the nurses and staff of Haven Healthcare, Rocky Hill for their warm and compassionate care. Burt was a wonderful and kind man. He will be deeply missed.
