CIERI, Philip J.
Philip J. Cieri, 92, of Newington, beloved husband for 68 years of Josephine (Visconti) Cieri, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, (October 30, 2013). Born on January 25, 1921 in Hartford, he was the son of the late Frederick A. and Catherine (Fogaletti) Cieri. Phil grew up in the North End of Hartford. He was an excellent baseball player and golfer. He graduated from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in 1939, where he was a member of the Kappa Psi fraternity. Philip served as a Pharmacist during WWII and was proud to be of service to wounded veterans. He owned and operated Cieri Pharmacy in the South End of Hartford for 42 years. He was a lifetime member of the Connecticut Pharmacy Association and served as President of the Hartford County Pharmacy Association. He was also a member of the Hartford Chapter of UNICO National, the 100% Voters League and the Newington chapter of the Knights of Columbus. In his later years, Phil enjoyed playing setback or bingo with his many friends at the Newington Senior Center and he was a longtime devoted member of St. Mary's Church. He was an avid Red Sox fan and we know he is celebrating their World Series win. He loved his family, country and his many friends, but his family was the center of his life and a source of great pride. In addition to his loving wife Josephine, Philip will be dearly missed by his son, Frederick Cieri; his daughter, Linda Hutt and Brian Rider; his adored grandson, Colin Hutt; step-grandchildren, Ashley and James Rider and his dear nieces and nephews, Eugene Cieri and his wife Anna, Pamela Cieri and Catherine Cieri. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother William Cieri and his wife Gene; his son-in-law, William Hutt; nephew, William F. Cieri, Jr. and sister-in-law, Lena Visconti.
The funeral service will begin on Monday at 8:30 a.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 626 Willard Ave., Newington. Burial with military honors will be in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
