CAREY, Rachel RuthRachel Ruth Carey, 16, of Rocky Hill, born July 11, 1986 in Hartford died Monday (January 6, 2003) at Hartford Hospital from injuries received in a car accident in Suffield. Daughter of John (Jack) and Laure (Leone) Carey; sister of Alison and Melissa Carey, all of Rocky Hill; granddaughter of Anthony and Rae (LoSchiavo) Leone of Wethersfield and John (Jack) and Joan (Carpenter) Carey of Blackstone, MA; great-granddaughter of Leland Higgins of Blackstone, MA. Attended West Hill School in Rocky Hill and Mooreland Hill School in Kensington. A member of the Junior class at Suffield Academy. Overcoming a reading disability, Rachel achieved academic honors while also serving as a teaching assistant, a member of the student council and on the spirit committee. Rachel was also a gifted athlete. The Suffield Academy Field Hockey Team had a 12-0-1 record in 2002 with Rachel as goalie. As an accomplished pitcher, she led the Rocky Hill Junior League All Star team to win the State Championship in 2000 with a 9-0 record, The Suffield Academy Softball team had a 31-2 record winning the Class B Championship in 2001 and the Class A Championship in 2002. Rachel is also survived by a large, loving family including: aunts and uncles David and Cathy Leone of Rocky Hill, Cindy and Paul Lavoie of Trumbull, David Carey of Arizona, Julie and Steve Stancliff of Rhode Island, Leslie Carey and John Filoponi of Rhode Island, Emelie Carey of Rhode Island. John Nenart of Massachusetts, Chris and Lisa Carey of Southbury, and Amy and Steve Brown of South Dakota, cousins Anthony Leone, Luke, Evan, Caroline and Andrew Lavoie, Miah Carey, Lindsey Endres, Tara and Kellie Nenart and Ashley, Katlyn and Sean Brown. Rachel was blessed with many friends including special friends Michael Dooman, Sheila Lavey, Joanne Pigott, Bryan Sweeney and John Brooks. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m., from the Giuliano-Sagarino Funeral Home at BROOKLAWN, 511 Brook Street, Rocky Hill followed by a Mass of Christian burial in Corpus Christi Church, Wethersfield at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Center Cemetery, Rocky Hill.
