Robert Bastiaanse, 70, of Torrington, CT passed away Thursday, (February 21, 2013) at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of Kayleen (McGowan) Bastiaanse. Robert was born in Holland, on Nov. 15, 1942, a son of the late Catherine (VanDeRee) and Abraham Bastiaanse. He worked as a steeplejack and was founder and owner of Valley Restoration since 1963. In addition to his wife, he leaves three sons and two daughters; Rob Courtemanche and wife Sherry of Riverton and their children John and Adam; Mark Bastiaanse of Torrington; and Paul Bastiaanse with Jennifer Ford and son George of Torrington; Nicole Bastiaanse-Fritch and husband Michael C. Fritch of Torrington and their children Vanderee and Avalee; and Natalie Ouellette, and husband Glen and children Robbie and Katalina of Thomaston. Robert is also survived by brothers Abraham Bastiaanse and wife Patti of Southington, and John Bastiaanse and wife Margaret of Granby, Walt Bastiaanse and wife Stacy of Montana; sisters Jacoba Kitchin and husband George of Andover, Margriet Smith of Burlington, Elizabeth Zidel and husband Tom of Arizona, and Lauwrina Byrne and husband David of Unionville. He also leaves his dog MacyLou, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Hans and Kees Bastiaanse
Graveside Services will be held at Hillside Cemetery, Torrington, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 26. Friends may call Monday 5-8 p.m. at Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington.
