MASSMAN, Robert E.

Robert E. Massmann, 89, of New Britain, husband of Eloise (Coon) Massmann, passed away Tuesday (April 9, 2013) at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain. Born in Pittsburg, Kansas, he was a New Britain resident since 1951. Robert graduated from the University of Michigan with a Master's Degree in Library Science. He worked as the Director of Library Services at Central Connecticut State University until his retirement in 1983. Robert proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was a member, Treasurer, Trustee and Lay Leader of the former Trinity United Methodist Church in New Britain. He later joined the North Canton United Methodist Church. Robert was also a member of the Kiwanis. He had a passion for collecting and publishing miniature books and was a past president of the Miniature Book Society. Besides his beloved wife of 66 years Eloise, he leaves two sons, Ernest Massmann and his wife Sherrie of Cincinnatus, NY; and Richard Massmann and his wife Priscilla of Bethel; a grandson Seth Adam Massmann; a sister Evelyn Simon and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial service will be held Saturday 11 a.m. at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
