BAILEY, Robert "Bob" F. Sr.

Robert "Bob" F. Bailey, Sr., 83 of Bristol, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at The Connecticut Hospice in Branford. Born January 17, 1930, in New Haven, CT, he was the son of the late Charles and Lillian Sarah (Hopkins) Bailey. Bob served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy for four years. After the service, he went on to work for Ideal Forging until his retirement and also working part time at Redmans Trailer for over 40 years. He kept active in the local community as a member of the Bristol Exchange Club for 29 years, serving as President of the club. He was the District President for two years of CT District Exchange. With both the Exchange Club of Bristol and the District Exchange Club he was presented with many awards. In 2001, he was presented by The Greater Bristol Chamber of Commerce, the Volunteer of The Year Award. He was on the Board of Directors for the Parent and Child Center for many years and received the Board Member of the Year Award for 2003. Bob was involved with the Mum Festival for many years and had put together the Mum Festival Parade and also judged the Parade. He was involved with Drum Corps for over 50 years and had taught many Drum Corps throughout the years and was a judge for the Drum Corps competitions and parade. He also was a major for the Stoney Creek Drum Corps. Most importantly, he loved his family and will be dearly missed by all those who knew him. He leaves his two children, a daughter Beverly Foote and her husband James; a son Robert Bailey, Jr. and his wife Sophie; eight grandchildren Debbie Lafleur, Christine Dykstra of St. Catharine, Ontario, Canada; Melissa and Dolores Burritt; Sarah Chadbourne; Jacqueline, Samantha and Daniel Bailey; seven great-grandchildren; a sister Allison Bailey of Norwalk; a brother-in-law Russell Mikolajczak and his wife Lyda; along with one special girl Jenna Donaghy and her brother Josh which he thought of as his step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Lorraine (Mikolajczak) Bailey; a brother Charles Bailey; a sister Margaret Hurley; and two daughters Dolores Patterson and Allison Burritt. The family would like to thank Rob Redman who was there to visit him or help out when it was needed; along with the Hospice at Bristol Hospital especially Sophie Whitlock and Tamara Martin Rosado and everyone from the Connecticut Hospice for all his final care. A special thanks for Stoney Creek Drum Corps for coming to perform for him after the Mum Festival Parade in 2012.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 12, 2013 at O'Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Ave., Bristol. All are invited to gather from 9:30 until the time of the service. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
