Robert Stoughton Cooper Jr.(1938 - 2014)



Robert Stoughton Cooper,Jr.,75, of Mims,Florida passed away following a brief illness on Friday, March 21, 2014. Bob was born on July 24, 1938 to Robert S. Cooper,Sr. and Helen Skinger Cooper. He was raised in Manchester, CT, graduated from The Watkinson School in Hartford, CT, then served in the Army National Guard. Bob had a passionate interest in all things related to aviation. He studied jet engines at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and was employed there in various capacities. He also worked for United Aircraft, Sikorsky and Electric Boat. Bob was a volunteer who worked to establish the New England Air Museum. In the early 1990's Bob moved to Cocoa Beach, FL where he enjoyed a long and varied career in the aerospace industry. He worked in contracted positions for United Space Alliance and USBI on space shuttles, titan rockets and booster rockets. He was a member of Red River Valley Pilots and Valiant Air Command. Bob is survived by his three sons, Robert S. Cooper,3rd of RI, Bradford Cooper of Los Angeles, CA, and Steven Cooper of Glastonbury,CT, two granddaughters, three siblings, Barbara Cooper Swanson of Colchester, CT, John Cooper of Dryden, NY, Claudia Cooper of Noank, CT and many nieces, nephews and cousins. There are no calling hours. At the convenience of the family Bobs' ashes will be scattered at sea. A memorial gathering of his friends is being planned in FL.
