JOHNSON, Roy Anton

Roy Anton Johnson, formerly of Demarest, NJ, passed away on February 28, 2013 at the age of 96. He was born on January 20, 1917 in New York City, the son of Hildegard Louise Johnson and Anton Edwin Johnson. Roy spent his childhood in New York City but lived most of his life in Demarest, New Jersey, where he raised his family. After graduating from Stuyvesant High School, he attended Purdue University where he studied mechanical engineering. He was a piping engineer by trade and a passionate model railroader in his leisure time. Roy was also a talented woodworker whose projects included most of the fine furniture in his home, an altar for his church, and dollhouses for his granddaughters. He loved music, traveling, gardening, and spending time with his family. His favorite home away from home was Bar Harbor, Maine where he visited every year. He was a kind and generous man who loved his family and friends. Roy was predeceased by his beloved wife of fifty years, Florence Hoag Johnson, and his second wife, Dorothy Myers Johnson who passed away in 2005. He is survived by his son, Craig Johnson of Bolton, CT; his daughter Svea Meyer and her husband Thomas of Lebanon, CT; his granddaughters Kelli Johnson, Alyssa Meyer, Sarah Swindells and her husband Scott; his grandsons Michael Johnson, Adam Meyer; and two great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Arbors retirement community for taking such excellent care of Roy and the caring staff at the Manchester Manor for helping him through these past few months.
There will be no calling hours. A private family celebration of Roy's life is planned.
