Sylvia Scacco, surrounded by her loving family, of West Hartford, formerly of Waterbury, died on the evening of February 21, 2013 at the UCONN Health Center. She was the wife of the late Michael Scacco who predeceased her three years ago. She was born on September 30, 1925 and was the daughter of Lorenzo and Maria (Mancini) Fusco. She leaves her children, Linda Scacco and her husband Edward Turro of West Hartford and her son Michael Scacco and his wife Lisa of Wolcott. She also leaves four grandchildren whom she loved, Katherine, Molly, and Michael Turro, Natalie Dunham and her husband Steve; and two great grandchildren, Bianca and Giuliana Dunham. She leaves two sisters, Viola Falcone of Wolcott, and Mary Anne Bernaitis and her husband Donald of Waterbury; as well as many nieces and nephews and numerous friends. She was predeceased by four brothers and one sister. Sylvia graduated from the St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in 1947 and worked as a RN doing staff and private duty nursing there and at other facilities for many years, retiring in the 1980's to spend time traveling to Florida in the winters with her husband. Sylvia enjoyed the warm weather, visiting the Casino, playing Bingo, eating chocolate (with nuts) and spending time with her family and friends. She was the ultimate caretaker, getting people to eat even when they didn't want to, and offering to give vitamin B-12 shots to anyone who wanted them. Sylvia was friendly, warm and well-loved and had many friends. She will be missed by all who knew her. She was a member of the St. Mary's Hospital Alumni Association and the VFW Post 8075, Prospect Women's Auxiliary. The family would like to thank the staff at the West Hartford Health and Rehab. Facility where Sylvia lived for the last several months. They would also like to thank several of her doctors, in particular, Dr. Thomas Manger, Dr. Jason Ryan, Diahann Wilcox, APRN and the staff and nurses at the Hematology Dept. and the Cardiac Step-Down Unit at the UCHC.
