DOWD, Thomas E.
Thomas E. Dowd, 69, of Dyer Ave., Canton, husband and best friend of Peggy Dowd, died Tuesday, (October 23, 2012), at the Hebrew Home and Hospital in West Hartford after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born Jan. 23, 1943 in Cortland, NY son of the late James Francis and Alice (Riley) Dowd and was a resident of Canton for 42 years. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force and stationed throughout the United States. Tom was employed as the Lead Technician of the Engineering Department at the Otis Elevator Division of United Technologies for 20 years prior to his retirement. Tom enjoyed watching NASCAR and various other sporting events. In the past he enjoyed coaching and umpiring little league baseball. He loved to travel with his wife and friends. He had a special interest in genealogy and was a real "do-it yourselfer". Most importantly he loved to spend time with his grandchildren. Besides his wife he is survived by his son, John F. Dowd, his wife, Katie, their children John and Samantha of Simsbury; his daughter, Banner Steiman, her sons Bret, Ben and Nick of Northboro, MA; and his brother, John F. Dowd and his wife Sondra of Nashville, TN. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Alan Steiman.
A celebration of life will be held at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike, Canton, Sunday, Oct. 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. Service and burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
