William A. Tomolonius, 85, of Newington, CT, passed away February 5, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT. He was born June 29, 1927 in Boston, MA, the son of Anthony and Sophia Tomolonius of Worcester MA. At the age of 16, Bill joined the U.S. Navy and was in the Pacific during World War II as a naval air crewman. After the war he graduated from Hillyer College as an engineer and started work designing equipment for power plants. Subsequently Bill worked for General Electric and Pratt & Whitney designing and testing jet engines. He ended his career at General Dynamics' Electric Boat Division working on the Navy's Submarine Fleet. He fulfilled his dream of flight when he acquired his pilot's license, was an avid golfer, member of the Newington Polish American Club and the Knights of Columbus. He leaves his best friend and love of his life, his wife of 63 years, Mary. He also leaves behind three sons, Gary and wife Mary of Canton CT, Brad and wife Susan of Bloomfield CT, and Kurt of Newington CT. Grandchildren, Sarah, Hannah, David and his wife Aitingli, Nathan, Jeffery and his wife Mellissa, their mother Ellen, and great grandchild, Olivia.
All are invited to Bill's funeral which will begin on Monday, Feb. 11 at 9 a.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick-St. Anthony Church, 285 Church St. in Hartford. Interment with military honors will take place in West Meadow Cemetery in Newington immediately following the Mass.
