William F. "Bill" McCarthy(1949 - 2013)

William "Bill" F. McCarthy, 64, of Newington, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on Sunday, (November 17, 2013). He was the loving husband of Patty (Sablone) McCarthy. Bill was born July 1, 1949 and grew up in Arlington, MA. He was a proud U.S. Air Force Veteran who served in the Vietnam War. After his honorable service, he attended UMass, Amherst and graduated in 1976. He retired from Travelers Insurance Company after 31 years, where he spent most of his career as Director of Food Services and Director of Environmental Claims. Bill's ultimate joy was spending time with his family in Aruba, Old Saybrook, and especially Disney World, where he truly believed "Mickey" was his friend. He was an avid sports fan who loved his Boston teams. Recently, Bill was so happy to be able to share good times with family and friends at his son's wedding. Besides his wife of 33 years, a beloved father, he leaves his son Billy and his wife Morganne and his daughter Kristen all of Newington. He is also survived by his brother Gerry and his wife Chris, Fran and Colleen Sablone, Michael and Ginny Daly. He was also loved by his nieces and nephews, Keith, Shawn, Melissa and her husband Mike, Michael Jr., Lindsay and her husband TJ, Alexis, Kellie and Frankie. Bill was blessed to have so many wonderful memories and laughs with great friends. His funeral service will be held on Friday, November 22 at 9 a.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Newington. He will be laid to rest with military honors in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at Newington Memorial.
