BARNES, William H.
William H. Barnes, 83, of Bristol, beloved husband and best friend to Lillian (Roth) Barnes died on Monday (December 31, 2012) at Bristol Hospital. Bill was born on July 13, 1929 in Flint, MI and was a son of the late Henry A. Barnes, former New York City Traffic Commissioner, and Hazel M. (Stone) Barnes. He was a United States Air Force Veteran of the Korean War and has resided in Bristol for the past 44 years. He helped to establish and operated along with his wife, Lillian, the former Iron Horse Restaurant on Prospect Street. He and Lillian had their own radio show on WBIS during that time. He then went to work as Development Director for The United Way and then for Bristol Hospital before retiring. He was an active volunteer during the Mum Festival, was active on various City of Bristol committees, and was a past president and Paul Harris Fellow of the Bristol Rotary Club. He was a corporator of Bristol Hospital and was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. In addition to his wife he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Eugene H. and Paulette Barnes; a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and James Brzezinski of Bloomfield; a sister, Virginia Plowman of Cromwell; a step-son, William C. Powers and his wife Brenda of West Simsbury; a step-daughter, Susan Doty of Weatogue; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, CT 06010. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Forestville Cemetery.
