William H. Barry Jr.(1922 - 2014)

William H. Barry Jr., born November 8, 1922 in Providence, RI, to William and Helen Barry, died peacefully on Monday, February 24, 2014 surrounded by his family in Farmington. He owned Bill Barry Volkswagen in West Hartford and Tolland Volkswagen in Vernon with his brother Jim. Bill served his country during WWII with the U.S. Marine Corps in the First Division in the Pacific Theatre. He earned a Silver Star during the campaign Cape Gloucester. He remained a true Marine throughout his life and went to many Marine reunions. Upon discharge, he entered the sales business with General Mills and proceeded to elevate himself to eventually becoming District Manager of S & W Foods. He earned the distinction of becoming the first person to be granted a VW dealership without any prior car sales experience. He was very passionate about golf and has many friends at Rockledge Country Club. He also enjoyed bowling during the winter months and boating during the summer. Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years, Adelaide A. Barry, his children and their spouses, Robert W. and Debra Barry, Timothy J. Barry, Kathleen and Paul Lesperance, and Colleen and James Miller, his daughter-in-law, Dianne M. Barry, his grandchildren and their spouses, Shane Barry, Kelly Cavanaugh, Samantha and Nathan Jilka, Bridget Barry, Adam and Maggie Barry, Ryan and Jennifer Barry, Jessica Barry, Samantha Herget, Daniel Lesperance, Amy Lesperance and Barry Miller, his great grandchildren, Hayden Jilka, Garrett Jilka, Jacob Williams, Morgan Herget, Michael Herget, Aubri Herget, Taylor Barry, Christian Barry, Geoffrey Barry, Devon Barry and Alexander Barry and his great great grandchild, Kaydence Bundrum. A special thank you to dear family friends Norma Barry and Joseph and Barbara Hickey. He was predeceased by his sons, Patrick M. Barry and John C. Barry and his siblings, James E. Barry, Mary L. Heslin, Elizabeth Kocha and Justine Donohue. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and gratitude to the staff on the 2nd Floor at UConn Health Center in Farmington.
