MORGAN, William "Bill"
William "Bill" Morgan, 71, of Hallandale Beach, FL and Newington, died after a short illness on May 16, 2013 in Florida. Bill was born in Hartford, son of the late William and Katherine (Gaffey) Morgan. He moved from Hartford to Newington in 1957 and to Hallandale Beach in 2005. He will be so missed by his wife of 44 years, his love, best friend and constant travel companion Donna (McClure) Morgan, his beloved children Sean Morgan of Seattle, WA and Lesley Morgan and her partner Karen Gallichio of Newington. He was an adoring Grandpa to Brooke, Drew and Kenzie Morgan of Newington, and also loved being "Grandpa Billy" to Becca and Garrett Pilney of Manchester and Ellie and Evan McDonald of Glastonbury. He leaves behind his brothers, Jack Morgan and his wife Kathy of Newington and Gary Morgan of Wethersfield, a brother-in-law, Donald McClure and his wife Karen in ME, and nephews Michael Morgan and his wife Anna of Cromwell, Stephen Morgan and his wife Heather of Newington, Douglas McClure and his wife Kimberly and Daniel McClure in MA and Matthew Vacca and his fiancé Kate Reid in NY. He is also survived by many cousins with whom he shared some good times. Bill, always called "Billy" by his family and known as "Willie" to his daughter's friends, graduated from Newington High School in 1960 and Central CT State University in 1973. He joined The Travelers in Sept. 1962 and retired as Director of Human Resources in June 2000 after a lengthy career in both Accounting and Human Resources functions. Bill was a past member of the Board of Directors of the Travelers Retiree's Club, a past member of the Entertainment Committee of the Travelers Employees Club and was a Past President (1980) of the Traveler's Men's Club. He was also a retired member of the Newington Volunteer Fire Department, Company 3 with 17 years of active service including time as both 2nd and 1st Lieutenant. He also spent some time as a member of the Newington Knights of Columbus and the Rotary Club of Hallandale Beach/Aventura in Florida.
There will be a celebration of Bill's life on Friday, May 24, at 10 a.m. directly to the Church of Christ, Congregational, 1075 Main St. in Newington. Bill, with his customary humor, wanted to remind everyone planning to attend to "arrive early if you want to get a good seat." Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave in Newington. Interment will be private in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington.
