Eleanor Spooner Machnik

MACHNIK, Eleanor Spooner Eleanor Spooner Machnik, of Old Lyme and Hobe Sound, FL, died on Sunday (May 18, 2008), at her home in Old Lyme. She was born on November 18, 1925, in Old Saybrook, the daughter of the late Samuel and Grace Daniels Spooner. She married Leon Machnik on November 24, 1951 in St. John Church in Old Saybrook. Mrs. Machnik was formerly employed as an operator with SNET. She also managed the family camp ground Witch Meadow Camp Sites in Salem. She enjoyed gardening, golfing and spending time with her grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son Todd and his wife Becky; her daughter Judi Hahn and her husband Alan all of Old Lyme; her twin sister Grace Belmont of Vero Beach, FL; her grandchildren Tom, Kevin and Peter Machnik and Kristen and Abby Lynn Hahn. She was also predeceased by her siblings Catherine, Charles, Burton and Berkley Whaples and Jane Whaples Anderson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the Church of Christ the King, McCurdy Rd., Old Lyme. Burial will follow in Duck River Cemetery, Old Lyme. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Beckwith La., Old Lyme. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Eleanor Spooner Machnik Memorial Fund, c/o Essex Savings Bank, PO Box 528, Old Lyme, CT 06371, a fund established to support junior golfers in Old Lyme.
