EPSEY, Barbara Cecelia

Barbara Cecelia Espey, 71, of West Hartford, Connecticut, and formerly of Watertown New York, passed away peacefully with family at her side on Monday, November 28, 2011. Born in Columbus, Georgia on September 4, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Gordon and Rosemary Branche Espey. She graduated in 1959 from Watertown High School and in 1962 from Kenmore Mercy Hospital with a Surgical Technology degree. In addition to her surgical technical role, Barbara worked for over 30 years as a professional restorative house painter. She began her painting career restoring Victorians in San Francisco and ended her career in the New England area. She took great pride in providing this service to her customers. Barbara was an avid stamp and coin collector, as well as antiques and art. She worked methodically to catalogue all entries and would eagerly share information with anyone willing to learn. She loved to travel and spend time with her family. Barbara is survived by her partner of 20 years, Dianne C. Webber, their son, Christopher Charles Espey Webber. Her sisters, Jean Stover and her husband, Tom of Chaumont, New York and Nancy Atkinson and her husband, Dermot of East Berlin, Connecticut; her brothers, Michael Espey and his wife Patricia of Dallas, Texas and Patrick Espey of Dallas, Texas; 26 nieces and nephews; 48 great nieces and nephews; one great great niece. She was predeceased by her brother, Charles (Chuck) Espey. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Carolyn Ray and Lynn Sperini, RN, and all the staff at St Francis Cancer Center for their compassion and care throughout Barbara's journey, and to the staff at Vitas Innovative Hospice Care for their outstanding care.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, December 10 at 2 p.m. at Flagg Road United Church of Christ, 134 Flagg Rd, West Hartford, CT. A funeral mass will be celebrated in Rosiere, New York at St. Vincent De Paul Church this summer at a time to be determined. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Children's Home of Jefferson County for the Barbara Cecelia Espey Culinary Arts Program and Café for teens, 1704 State Street, Watertown, NY 13601.
