It is a different time. A new farm, but your spirit still remains. It will always be Adi Schieman's Farm.

Dear Artie, I was just sharing your story with new friends last night. I am so touched to see these stories from friends and neighbors. Our son´s middle name Arthur is named in your honor and memory. Whenever a warm breeze comes by in the spring, it´s you telling us it´s time to plant. Miss you, Artie.

Mr. Schieman,

I have so many vivid visual memories of you around your farm and my grandparents´ neighboring farm on Akins St. I think my earliest memory of you is in your cow barn. You showed us how to milk a cow. I also remember you tinkering on a tractor with my grandfather, Sam Rizza. You each were lucky to have each other and exchange wisdom and farm innovation. You represent the best of the 20th century in America. You were hard-working, relentless in your protection of farmland, and a gentle soul. Your turn ups always had a place of honor on our Thanksgiving and Christmas tables. Your corn stocks always embellished our yard too. I´m happy that there´s a horse farm on your family land now. I do so miss the sight of you on your tractor in your fields. That ground is sacred and will forever be intertwined with the memory of you and your fine family. Wishing you eternal peace.

He was a real American, hard working and loved animals. Also I hope he is happy seeing the farm worked.

Artie, I will miss you. I have so many memories of you and your family. I watched my first t.v. program (I love Lucy) with you and your wonderful parents at your house.
Whenever I returned home to Atkins St. I always enjoyed seeing you around the farm. God Bless you Artie

Artie, I'll always remember you and the special memories I have of you and your family. As a child, I remember watching my first t.v. program (I love Lucy) with you and your wonderful parents.
After moving away from Atkins St., I always looked forward to saying hi to you at the farm.
Bradley St. will not be the same without you Artie. God Bless you and your family.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you Artie as well as your family.
Having just completed Berlin Fair Weekend,I can vividly recall just a few short years back when we awarded Artie the trophy for being the oldest driver with his tractor on display. He walked around the fairgrounds as proud as could be showing off his trophy. We will miss him and will add his name to our "Farmers Hall of Fame" at the Berlin fairgrounds. Dave Alkas,Berlin

Arite! you are amazing!! I remember tractor rides when we were little, Pumpkins, squash etc. you were always willing to distribute your home grown goodies!! i remember you being the one person our parents could call if we missed our bus and needed alternate ride to school. You have touched so many of us in your kind way! It is with great pleasure that I was able to grow up around you and your farm. Now, I can only hope that your life and property will be preserved in the condition that it remains. You are a legacy and I think your land should be turned it a museum of some sort!! Luv U!! xoxoxoxo

Dave O'Brien (cont'd) even in his older years. We did some potato harvesting together; pulling some weeds; and he showed me his special way of getting one of his old tractors started. We'd go down and check on his bee hives and he knew alot about bees and their ways. During the winters I'd stop by to say hello and he would have his wood stove always fired up. Artie loved his farm and farming life, and he was always interested in all the sciences, especially I think in chemistry. He was always concerned about what the world was going to do about future energy needs.Artie was a real good guy, a gentleman. Artie was proud of his military service in World War II and would reflect on those experiences now and then. He was especially glad to have the farm preserved for the City of Middletown under the Farmland Preservation Program. A wonderful thing to do.
I will miss getting together with my friend under the beautiful shady trees on his farm.

My sympathy and prayers are with all of Artie's family. I have been a friend of Artie's for over twenty years now. We had many good visits over those years. I joined Artie picking up bales of hay while he would drive his tractor. We would unload the trailer in his barn across the street. He was a strong man (Cont'd)

To my long time friend and neighbor of over 65 years - you will be dearly missed. You were a special part of neighborhood, it was just a few houses those many years ago and we became very close friends from the beginning, along with your Mom and Dad. May God bless you and your family at this time.
