Edward DuBRULE Obituary

DuBRULE, Edward J.
Edward J.DuBrule, 92, of West Hartford, beloved husband for 55 years of the late Marie (Brassill) DuBrule, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, (July 8, 2011) at his home. He was born September 10, 1918 in East Hartford, the only son of the late Edward L. and Anna (Mcgilton) DuBrule. Ed was the devoted father of Edward J. Dubrule, Jr. of Hartford; Nancy DuBrule-Clemente and her husband Anthony Clemente of Middletown, and Elizabeth (DuBrule) DeRienzo and her husband Jeffrey DeRienzo of Tyngsboro, MA. He was also the proud grandfather of Catarina and Jesse DeRienzo, also of Tyngsboro, MA. As a professional jazz musician - playing string bass and electric bass - Ed was part of the Connecticut music scene from the early 1940s until his retirement from music in the 1990's. From his first group, The Van Lee Trio, he went on to play with The Bobby Kay Big Band, was the bass player in an all banjo band, played with the Walter K. Bauer band, The Walt Dolecki orchestra, and many other groups, small and large, in the greater Hartford area. He worked for over 60 years at Austin Organs, Inc. in Hartford, crafting and servicing the consoles. Even after his retirement, he continued to repair manual consoles in his basement workshop well into his 70's. He honorably served four years in the U.S Army and was a decorated staff sergeant with Battery B, the 356th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion in Guadalcanal in the South Pacific. Ed's life was defined by love, family, music, hard work, and service. He was known as a generous and helpful family man, neighbor, and friend. His sense of humor spread joy and laughter to every life he touched. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Mary Osei-Addo for her more than five years as a devoted, kind, and loving caregiver of both Ed and Marie. She made all of our lives more joyous and secure. Masonicare Home Health and Hospice provided the kind of support, insight, and reassurance that made Ed's final days more comfortable both for him and for his family and caregiver.
Relatives and friends may call at the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford on Tuesday, July 12th from 5-8 p.m. The funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. at the Molloy Funeral Home on Wednesday morning, July 13th followed by the burial service at Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. So sorry to just hear of Ed's passing. I worked with him for many years, beginning in 1969 when I was 17. He was a fabulous mentor, and taught me much about mechanics and jazz music. I have always had the deepest respect for him, and will remember him fondly.
