Corinne Johndrow Obituary

Corinne A. (Girard) Johndrow, 73, warmest of heart and most generous of spirit, passed away at home in Bristol with her family at her side on Sunday (August 3, 2003). Corinne was born in Hartford on February 27, 1930 and was a daughter of the late Leas and Molly (Kelly) Girard. She lived in New Britain before moving to Bristol in 1986 and was a member of St. Matthew Church, Forestville. She was a graduate of the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing, Hartford as a Registered Nurse. She loved the Theater and the Arts and was very active athletically. She was a founder of the Play for Hunger Charity fundraiser. This raised funds to provide food, clothing, medication, a grandmother's closet of baby items, and a 22 bed unit for battered women, for the poor and disadvantaged in the St. Petersburg, Florida area. $300,000 has been raised in the Play for Hunger's 12 year existence. Corinne is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, Harold O. Johndrow Jr.; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Lori Johndrow of Bristol, and Paul and Mairead Johndrow of Bristol; two daughters and a son-in-law, Denise and William Markavich of Plantsville, and Patrice Johndrow of Easthampton; a sister, Marie Hagedorn of Avon; ten loving grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 5, at 10 a.m. at St. Matthew Church, Forestville. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Britain. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bristol VNA Hospice Program, 195 Maltby St., Bristol, CT 06010. Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol is in care of the arrangements.
