Richard Reinhart Obituary

Richard "Dick" Reinhart, 80, of Farmington, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 13, 2017, surrounded by family. Born July 18, 1937, in Newport, NH; son of the late Alvin and Marguerite (Pollard) Reinhart. Richard was predeceased in 2014 by his wife, Susan (Seymour) Reinhart. He is survived by his brother, Ronald Reinhart, and sister-in-law, Elizabeth B. Reinhart of Avon; his daughter, Krista Reinhart, and her husband, Christopher B. Clark, Jr., and their son, Caige T. Clark of North Yarmouth, ME; nephew Kurt O. Reinhart, his wife Julie M. Reinhart, and their children Lauren M. Reinhart and Reid T. Reinhart of Miles City, MT; his step-daughters and their families: Katherine A. Simoneit of Glen Ellyn, IL, Susan A. Stover of West Simsbury, Katherine H. Stahl of Walpole, NH, and Elizabeth M. Hallas of Kittredge, CO; and his very special Mensch, Eva K. Kollmar of Munich, Germany. Richard was a graduate of the Loomis Institute (later Loomis Chaffee School) in 1955, Yale University in 1959, and Yale School of Architecture in 1962. After earning his Master of Architecture degree, Richard served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Arequipa, Peru from 1963 to 1965. He then spent two years in Stuttgart, Germany under a Fulbright scholarship. As a professional in architecture, Richard began working at Architect Associates in Farmington before starting his own practice, Richard Reinhart / Architect, in Farmington, which he maintained until his retirement in 2013. Richard had a passion for photography, birding, reading, cooking, discussing current events, and watching the UCONN women's basketball team. He was a very proud father, serving as his daughter's #1 soccer fan and supporter through all of life's events. His gift for story-telling, sense of humor, and infectious laugh will be sorely missed. In lieu of flowers, those inclined to memorialize Richard's passing may make a contribution to The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History at 869 Route 6A, Brewster, MA 02631 or www.ccmnh.org. The family would also like to extend deep gratitude to all those at McLean in Simsbury, who cared so well for Richard in his final few months. Calling hours for friends and family will be held at Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury, CT from 2 to 4 pm on Saturday, December 9, 2017. To honor his wishes, Richard will be cremated, with his ashes spread by family at the same resting place as his parents along the Cape Cod seashore. Working with Richard (Dick) in Arequipa, Peru, during our Peace Corps days was one of my very pleasant memories. When I was connected with a project displaying furniture possibilities for those who had lost their dwellings in an earlier earthquake, Dick was there, assisting in our Sunday afternoon exhibits in the various barriada sites of the surrounding areas of the main city. He was an ingenious designer and contributed his architectural expertise during those days and I'm sure that he left that memory of his work for the people to appreciate. Patt Behler, Peru, 62-64

Dick and I are wearing hats that I designed. So wonderful.

I am feeling so very sad to hear of Dick's recent death. I can hear his infectious laughter in my ears as I write this. He was such a caring and creative person, and a wonderful architect. He designed our home in Lincoln, Massachusetts, as well as many other homes that my father, Byron W. Hodges, built in the 1980s and 1990s. Our home is a pavilion-style house that perfectly suits the lot and perfectly suits my husband John LeClaire and me. I have always felt more drawn to contemporary design while John is more inclined toward traditional New England architecture. Somehow Dick was able to satisfy both of us to create a house and home that we truly love. Our home was built in 1993. I am going to attach a photo of Dick and me on its 10th anniversary in 2003. He was always supportive of my endeavors and we're both wearing hats that I designed. Such a good memory. Love to all in Dick's circle.

I am very sad to read of Dick's death as I have wonderful memories of him. He designed many homes that my husband built and they were all very special.

Krista and family,

We were saddened to read of your father Richard's passing.

He was a friend and a long-time member of the Board of Directors of the Yale Club and Scholarship Foundation of Hartford. Always loyal to Yale and the Club, with a great sense of humor. We have missed his participation in recent years.

On behalf of the Board and myself please accept our condolences for your loss.

Sincerely,

November 20, 2017

We are sorry to learn of the passing of Richard, but grateful for his service to our nation with the Peace Corps in Peru.
