Gertrude A. Preble

1924 - 2016

Gertrude A. Preble, 92, of South Windsor, formerly of Glastonbury, CT, passed away peacefully at home on July 30, 2016. Gertrude "Gerry" was born in Cleveland, Ohio on April 5, 1924, the daughter of the late James and Anne Plantner. Gerry was an avid Red Sox, New York Giants and UCONN women's basketball fan. She was a superb gardener, plants and flowers flourished under her care. She also loved watching and feeding the many different birds and wildlife that came into her back yard. Gerry was predeceased by the love of her life Dr. Charles Preble. She is survived by five children, Alfred Corbeil and his wife Doris, Barbara Corbeil, Annette Calabrese and her husband Anthony, Cindy Orfitelli and her husband James, Kevin Corbeil ; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; her brother James Planter and wife Bernadette; and stepsons Reginald Preble and his wife Betsy and Charles Preble and his wife Susan. She also leaves behind close longtime friends Arlene Avallone and Wilma Pisch and a wonderful neighbor and friend Lorraine Harrison. Our mother had a soft spot for all animals, especially dogs and cats, so in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT. A Memorial Mass celebrating Gerry's life will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at St Francis of Assisi Church, 673 Ellington Road, South Windsor.
