William HARRIS Obituary

HARRIS, William David William David (WD) Harris, 62, of Granby, husband of Mary Cadorette-Harris, passed away suddenly Friday (October 15, 2010), at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Harrisburg, PA, son of the late Harry and Hannah Leah (Miller) Harris, he later lived in Dayton, OH until moving to Beverly Hills, CA in the early 1960s. He graduated from Beverly Hills High School, after which he enlisted in the US Navy and served in Vietnam. WD was an Aviation Electrician troubleshooter for Attack Squadron Fifty-five aboard the USS Hancock. Bill earned a BA in Theatre and Lighting Design from San Francisco University. His career began as a rigger for US and European Tours with classic rock and roll artists such as Joni Mitchell, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Eagles and The Beach Boys. He continued his career in the entertainment industry working on numerous television and film productions such as Moonlighting and Mad About You. Bill remained a lifelong member of International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Local 80. He lived in Burbank, CA for 15 years where he met his wife Mary. When his mother-in-law suffered a severe stroke in 1999, he selflessly moved back east so Mary could be near her Mom who passed away in 2007. Settling in Granby, he and Mary purchased an antique farmhouse and barn, which he lovingly (and relentlessly) applied his creativity and craftsmanship on for the last ten years. The barn now houses Nug and Bug Antiques. Bill was a member and past Commander of the Granby Memorial Post 5847 VFW and the Shannon-Shattuck Post 182 American Legion and was a member of the Valley Brook Community Church in Granby. Besides his wife, he leaves a beloved brother, Donald Lee Harris and his wife, Laurie of Sherman Oaks, CA, a niece, Vanessa Harris and a nephew, Travis Harris. He also leaves his faithful companions to the end, Bailey and Jake. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 20, 10 a.m., at the Hayes, Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook Street, Granby with the Reverend Clark Pfaff officiating. Military honors will follow at his home after the service. His family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 19, from 4 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301. For online condolences, please visit www.carmonfuneralhome.com.

Mary
So truly sorry for your loss. Bill was such a unique person, and had so much knowledge. I always enjoyed him at the Golden Gavel Auction throughout the many years of attendance. He would always purchase the neatest stuff and always have an idea for the item. He will be missed dearly.

Mary,
It was an honor and a privilege to have known Bill; I will never forget the times he and I shared together. Bill taught me many things in the short time I was able to have been his friend. I think about how fast time passes each time I see the trees we planted along the property. And especially the one closest to RT 20 N of the barn, he used to call it Bens tree. Bill, Ben and I spent about an hour or so doing that one as Ben Coleman had several questions for Bill Harris on planting. Bill lovingly answered them all.
Bill Harris Thank you.
Love Jon Bonnie and Ben Coleman.
