SMITH, Edward F. Sr.
Edward F. Smith Sr., 74, a resident of Enfield for over thirty years, formerly of Albany, NY, beloved husband of the late June (Wandell) Smith died on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Parkway Pavilion. He was born on March 4, 1938 in Albany, New York, the son of the late Clyde and Ida (Dunn) Smith. Ed served his country enlisting with the United States Marine Corps as a machinist mate with the 31st Marine Air Base Squadron. Upon his honorable discharge from active service he began a career in the aerospace industry spanning 42 years retiring as a lead mechanic with U.S. Airways in 2000. Ed had just finished serving as the President of the Suffield Sportsman Association and formerly served as a Committeeman for the International Brotherhood Association of Machinist. Some of his favorite pastimes included hunting, fishing, golfing, woodworking, and UCONN basketball. He leaves three children, Edward F. Smith, Jr. of Revere, MA, Bridget Smith of Schenectady, NY and Andrea Betts of Clifton Park, NY; three step-children, Amy Welliver and her husband David of Suffield, Andrew Britt and his wife Angela and James Britt and his wife Kristen all of Cohoes, NY; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Robert R. Betts in 2009.
His funeral will be held on Sunday evening, March 3rd at 6:00 p.m. at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield followed by Military Honors presented by the U.S. Marine Corps Honor Team and the Hardware City Detachment Marine Corps League. Burial will be private in Memory's Garden Cemetery, Albany, NY. Relatives and friends may call on Sunday afternoon prior to the service from 3-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
