David D'Alessandro Obituary

David Allen D'Alessandro, Sr., age 76, passed away on February 20, 2018, in Clemons, NY. He joins the love of his life, Sharon, who passed away in 2014. They were married in 1960 and their love continues to grow, even more so into eternity and in the lives of their family. Born on March 28, 1941 in East Hartford, CT, Dave was raised by his grandmother, Minnie D'Alessandro. He attributed his humble beginnings and struggles early in life as the foundation on which he built his success. Dave was a self-taught man who was admired for his many accomplishments. He was a champion stockcar driver, a master fabricator and mechanic, a musician, singer and songwriter. He loved the outdoors; hunting, archery and camping; Dave was a professional fisherman, winning many awards and tournaments. He was an inventor, holding five US patents. He owned and operated Dave's Auto Upholstery in Manchester for 35 years and was sought after for his unique custom upholstery work. Dave attributed his solid work ethic and integrity to his Uncle George, who was a great father-figure. Like him, Dave was known for helping and encouraging others, especially those who were down and out; his garage, upholstery shop and boat were sanctuaries to many. He leaves behind three children, Sherry D'Alessandro and her husband, Geri Langlois of Willimantic; David A. D'Alessandro, Jr. of Coventry and Mark A. D'Alessandro of Manchester; seven grandchildren, Alesia; Russell, Samuel; D. Allen, III, Cherie, Elizabeth and Lisa; and five great-grandsons, Russell, Jr., Tyler, Memphis, Lucas and Cooper. He also leaves stepbrother, John. Dave was predeceased by his father, David Hamm and his mother and stepfather, Helen and Jacob Bogli. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2018 from 4:00-6:00 PM, followed by an informal Memorial Service at 6:00 PM, at Holmes-Watkins Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester, CT. We are so sorry to hear about Dave. He played in Dub Tyler & the good guys band with me for many years. He was a great bass player & singer. We played many places in the Manchester area, The Lakeside in Coventry for 5 years. We spent time fishing & hunting together. I'll miss the good times we had together.
