Dear Joseph A.

After a long cold winter, Spring is finally in the air. There are buds on the leaves of the trees and on all of the flowers that we had planted together.
New life is developing everywhere.....even in our family.
We are currently awaiting the birth of our new grandchild....another grandson. What else?
As long as the new baby is as happy and as healthy as Christian, we will all be very much pleased.
Perhaps, you have already seen our little one in heaven as he travels to earth. Did you smile and say hi as he continues to birth?

Missing you still and always.

Love

Barbara

A Love Letter To My Husband

October 28. 2010

Dear Joseph A.

Today would have been our 43rd wedding anniversary. Instead of celebrating this event together as we usually did, I had a Mass said in your memory yesterday.
Since you left us, so many things have taken place. Although, I know that you are watching over us, I thought that I would tell you what we have been doing in your absence.
I am sure that you would like to know that I have been taking care of business. Perhaps, I am not doing it as well as you could ( and did ) all these past years. However, things are being taken care of...slowly but surely. Do not worry. We've got everything under control.
Our beloved grandson Christian celebrated his first birthday this summer. He is eating "grown up "food with his nice new teeth. He has learned to walk... a feat in which we share his pride. Christian was baptized on September 26th. Thomas and Alicia are his devoted grandparents.
A few weeks ago, we hosted a "Celebration of Life " luncheon gathering in your honor. Invited guests included family, friends, neighbors, office personnel and clients who were ( and still are) your friends. You were present among us as I had a framed photograph of you displayed on an easel. We had invited 57 guests but due to various unforeseen circumstances only 43 could attend.
We said a silent prayer for you followed by my toast to you:
"To Joe, a man of all seasons; for all the right reasons."
After our meal, several people volunteered to share their feelings about you. These comments were appropriate, acknowledged and very much appreciated.
The next day was a bright sunny day. So, I took your framed photograph for a ride to the club where you spent so many happy hours playing golf. From there, we drove by our former residence. Continuing back home, I paused at the Hallmark Ice Cream stand where we used to stop to buy your chocolate ice cream cone. It was a trip down Memory Lane for both of us.
As the days grow colder and the trees become barren, I recall you remarking that you never liked the chill and the look of November.
The seasons will come and go....but you will always remain in our hearts forever and ever.... as the words say that we have engraved on your gravestone.
We love you and we miss you....Until we meet again..
Love Barbara

To Barbara and Family:

Everybody's Joe:

When Barbara and Joe tied the knot
Their goal in life would be
To enjoy the years together
And raise a family.
Republican Town Committee
Board of Finance too,
Treasurer and on the Board of Directors
Were undertakings he'd do.
A CPA in both Naples and Niantic
Was a hectic schedule you see,
But he often found time to play golf
With "the boys" and ready on the tee.
But the joy of his life wasn't work
But his sons that numbered three.
He taught them the value of compassion and love
And that became reality.
Then a glimpse of tomorrow
Came into his life,
When Michael took Laurie
To be his wife.
For a grandson Christian
Would brighten his day,
In a smiling,loving,
Heartful way.

Rest in Peace.

Dear Barbara and family,
I had the opportunity to serve with Joe for years on the Giants Neck Improvement Club and was deeply imporessed by his dedication to serving the best interests of all GNBA residents. He never let anything "go by," never shirked an unpleasant duty, and consistently did what he believed was necessary. Both John and I have observed him over the years as he provided excellent financial advice to the GNBA Governors. He will be a great loss to you and your family, and he will also be a great loss to the GNBA community. We will miss him.
Sincerely, John and Frankie Matthesen

Dear Bernardi Family,
I am thinking of you during this difficult time.
I was first introduced to Joe by my Dad (Larry Ross) back in 1975 when I was 22. He quickly became someone that had a great impact on the direction of my life. Joe was a constant source of guidance and wisdom. I can't even put into words the loss my family and I feel today.

Dear Barbara & family,
I was shocked to read of Joe's passing. I didn't know that he was ill. I have fond memories of our times together during the Republican Town Committee days. He was such a great guy and a true gentleman.
Unfortunately, I'm leaving for our place in NH for the weekend today and won't be able to attend his service. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Hold close to your heart all the precious memories of him as they will sustain you in the days ahead.

Sincerely,

Chris
