RILEY, Elizabeth A.
Elizabeth Ann (Annunziata) Riley, 64, of Amston, died peacefully early Monday, (December 17, 2012) at St. Francis Hospital. Elizabeth, known by her family and friends as Betty, was born on Nov. 18, 1948, in New Britain to the late Theodore and Ida (Ornati) Annunziata. Betty was a math teacher at Wethersfield Public Schools for 38 years. She had a love for cooking, playing tennis, entertaining, traveling, volunteering, being with her dog Lucy and cat Lexi, vacationing in Maine, and spending time with family and friends. Betty was an active parishioner at the Church of the Holy Family and a vocalist in the choir. She is survived by her three devoted sons Christopher Riley, of East Hampton, Timothy Riley, of Amston, and Brendan Riley and his girlfriend Michelle Liang, currently residents of Beijing, China; the father of her children George Riley, of Groton; her brother, Joseph Annunziata and his wife Donna Annunziata, of Berlin; her niece, Lisa Annunziata and her boyfriend Brian Smith, of Beverly, MA; her niece Kristen (Annunziata) Pandolfi and her husband Joseph Pandolfi Jr., of Middletown; her niece Megan Annunziata, of Orlando, FL; several nieces and nephews in Texas; and many loving cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Eugene C. Annunziata.
Her family will receive relatives and friends at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury, Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012 from 4-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012 at the Church of the Holy Family, 185 Church St., Amston, CT. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in New Britain, CT. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the Covenant Soup Kitchen, 220 Valley St., Willimantic, CT 06226 or the Windham Area Interfaith Ministry - WAIM, PO Box 221, Willimantic, CT 06226. "Miss Annunziata" was my 7th grade math teacher at Samuel B Webb Jr High School (and she had my 3 brothers too). Without a doubt THE most fun math teacher I ever had. We had "tennis parties" indoors for many years with family friends and teachers and always had the best of times. Last saw her at Joan's wedding (5-6 years ago?) and had a great time reminiscing. Deepest condolences to her entire family.

Simply the best teacher... Mrs. Riley was not only a teacher, she was a great mentor and friend . I will always cherish the fond memories I have of her. My thoughts and prayers go out to her sons, let there be comfort in knowing that your mom has influenced so many lives and she will live on in all of our hearts forever!

Mrs. Riley was an outstanding teacher. She made learning fun and showed that life was something to enjoy and make the most out of. She will be dearly missed but remembered by all those lives she touched in her years of teaching.

Dearest Chris, Brendan, and Tim,
We are all so Saddened by your Mother's passing, and how we wish we could be with you all at this time.
Please know how extremely proud your Mom and of course your Father must be of the loving, respectful, and distinguished young Men you have become, and of the way you are dealing with your loss of your Mother; in such a way as to honor her beautiful memory. I always hated math, but I loved my math teacher! Mrs. Riley was friendly and never gave up on me and I never forgot that. She went the extra mile with us and even took us on class trips on her own dime. Well done Mrs. Riley...well done.

Betty will be truly missed. She was an inspiration to so many students, and always reached out to those in need. We shared some great times in our early teaching days.

Betty was my cooperating teacher back in 1976 when I did my student teaching. Then we met again when she subbed at the school I currently teach at - just amazing. Please accept my deepest sympathy. Betty will always be remembered for all the lives she touched as an excellent math teacher.

I loved Mrs. Riley's math class at WHS and know she positively impacted the lives of countless students and friends. Her class was one of my favorites. May she rest in peace.

Betty was the reason I became a class advisor. She never said no to a spontaneous tennis game or a chance to spend time with friends. She was the one teacher who attended all her students' sporting events at least once. She leaves a huge hole in my heart.

Some of my greatest high school memories were spent with "Riles" It wouldn't have been the same without her. So sorry to hear about this loss, she will be missed, but more importantly remembered. My thoughts are with her family.
