Adeline Poglitsch Obituary

Adeline D. Poglitsch, 98, a longtime resident of Newington, passed away at her home on Saturday, January 11, 2014, with her family at her side. Born on September 15, 1915, in New Britain, Adeline was the daughter of the late Alois and Augusta (Scheucher) Deutsch and the wife of the late Frank F. Poglitsch. Prior to her retirement, Adeline worked as a child care provider for the David Leventhal family and remained close friends with them after her employment. She was a communicant of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Newington and a member of their Ladies Guild. She was a talented baker who enjoyed cake decorating and teaching the art to others. A seamstress, she created many beautiful quilts. In her leisure time, Adeline loved being outdoors gardening and crocheting. Adeline is survived by her two sons, John R. Poglitsch and his wife Helene of Berlin and Robert F. Poglitsch and his wife, Holly of Woodbury, her daughter, Judith L. Poglitsch with whom she made her home in Newington, her brother, Edward Deutsch of Sun City, CA and her sister, Leona Ibets of Tolland, and a step-granddaughter, Wendy Carlson of Berlin and several caring nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call on Monday morning from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave. Newington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Newington. Committal services will follow at West Meadow Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial contributions in Adeline's name may be made to the Newington Volunteer Ambulance Corp, P.O. Judy, Robert and John
I was proud to serve as pallbearer for Adeline, may she rest in peace. I was honored to know her for a short time but I believe that she knew she was loved and appreciated by all that knew her. May her memory shine bright in your hearts and minds.

John, Judy, and Robert,

Please accept my sincere sympathy on the loss of your mother. I remember her so fondly as a fun and energetic person!

She was a good friend to my mother, driving her to the store for groceries and other errands and then out for coffee; during the summer, to T-Bowl for Robert and me. So much fun she provided me!

Her baking and cake decorating skills were exceptional; she gave me some wonderful memories - she had made for me a violin cake which, when I first saw it, was so realistic I thought I was looking at another violin! There was a "corset" cake for my grandmother and a "paint can" cake for my dad. I could go on and on. As a matter of fact, one of my first baking experiences was making a blueberry pie with your mom and Judy in August of 1969.

Your mother made an exquisite layette for my now 28 year old son, Austin; she was a part of his life too.

She was a generous and kind woman.

I'm sure you will miss her very much.
