Adolf J. Achenbach

1928 - 2013

Adolf J. Achenbach, 85 of New Britain, died on December 12, 2013 peacefully surrounded by his family at the Hospital of Central CT. He was born on July 24, 1928 in New Britain where he resided for his entire life. He was the son of Nellie (Podolak) Achenbach Brownstein and Adolf Achenbach. He was the widower of Phyllis (Davey) Achenbach after 41 years of marriage. After high school, Adolf enlisted in the United States Air Force. Upon completion, he graduated from Utilities Engineering Institute in Chicago. He was employed by North and Judd Manufacturing Company, retiring after 35 years. He finished his career after 10 years of working at E.I.S. Brake Parts in Berlin. Adolf loved all of his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a cheerleader to each and every one of them, supporting them in every aspect of their lives. Adolf leaves behind his family that adored him. His daughters Sheree A. Lorch and husband Richard of New Britain, Donna Bell and husband James of Plainville, his stepson Wayne Davey of East Hartford, and daughter in-law Phyllis Usher of Colchester. His grandchildren Steven Achenbach and wife Michele and their children Alexandra and Zachary of Rockland, MA, Michael J. Achenbach of Greenville, NH, Michael Lorch and his wife Rebecca and their children Madison and Ryan of New Britain, Meghan Lorch and Cody Gill of Plainville, Samantha Bell and fiancé Vito Barbagallo of Norwalk, Matthew Lorch and Kayleigh Murphy of Middletown, and Amanda Martin and husband Jared of Bristol. A sister Marjorie A. Slaker of New Britain, a brother Karl Brownstein of Kensington, and many nieces and nephews. Special friends left behind are Gerry Gonyo and family of Cromwell and Henry Przytulski of New Britain. Calling hours will be Monday (Dec. 16, 2013) from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. at the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain with a service at 6:30 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be private.
