Albert J. Marques Jr., 84, of South Windsor, beloved husband of the late Marion (Wallace) Marques, died peacefully on Thursday January 23, 2014, at St. Mary Home in West Hartford. He was born on December 12, 1929, in Hartford, CT, son of the late Albert J. and Mary (Gonsalves) Marques. Albert grew up in Hartford and was a graduate of Hartford Public High School, where he played football which led to him playing semipro football in Hartford. He went on to serve our country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. A resident of South Windsor for over 50 years, he worked for Alan S. Goodman until he retired. Albert was active in South Windsor with the high school and youth football programs booster club when his children were growing up. An avid sports fan he enjoyed the New York Giants and Yankees. He was a hardworking, independent, devoted and generous father, brother, grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed by all. He leaves his son, Albert J. Marques III and his wife Jane of West Hartford; his daughters, Laura Chevalier and her husband Winston of Tolland and Amy Deslauriers and her husband Norbert of West Hartford; his brother, John Raphael and his wife Sue of South Windsor; seven grandchildren, Brian and Taylor Marques, Adam and Ben Chevalier and Olivia, Nicole and Gabriella Deslauriers. He was predeceased by his brothers, Armand and Joseph Marques. His family will receive friends on Sunday, January 26, 2014, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor; followed by a funeral service to begin at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
