SANTUCCI, Albert F. "Bit"
Albert F. "Bit" Santucci, 97, died on Tuesday, (July 16, 2013) in Plainville. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Martha (Lamie) Santucci, a sister Lucy Pestillo of Plainville, a daughter Judith Breault of Tucson, AZ, a son Mark Santucci of Ledyard, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The son of Angelo and Vincenza Santucci, Albert was born in Plainville on Jan. 30, 1916. He was predeceased by two brothers, Sam Santucci of New Britain and Charles Santucci of Avon, and a sister, Antoinette Santucci of Plainville. Bit was a lover of sports. He was an avid golfer into his nineties and an outstanding bowler, tennis, baseball, football and basketball player earlier in his life. A member of the class of 1936, he was inducted into the Plainville High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2004. A long-time member of the Church of Our Saviour (Episcopal) in Plainville, he was a member of the church's Sportsmans' Club and served several terms as a member of the vestry. During World War II, Bit served in the Pacific theatre with the U. S. Navy Seabees and the Marines. Bit retired from the Marlin Rockwell Corporation (later TRW) of Plainville. After his retirement he drove a small school bus for the Plainville Schools and a van for the Plainville Senior Center.
His family will receive friends on Monday from 4-6 p.m. at the Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St., Plainville. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Church of Our Saviour, 115 West Main St., Plainville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Our Saviour.
