Alberta "Robbie" (Baron) Bogin, 95, of West Hartford, died peacefully Tuesday May 28, 2013. She was the beloved wife for 67 years of Alvin Bogin. Born in Hartford, she was the daughter of Harry and Dora (Rabinowitz) Baron. Alberta and her husband have lived in West Hartford at their Carlyle Road home, for almost 60 years. Alberta was a graduate of Weaver High School in Hartford. She received her bachelor's degree from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, and masters and sixth year degrees from the University of Hartford. She worked as an art teacher in the Hartford school system for 40 years and retired in 1978. She was a life member of Hadassah, volunteering weekly at the Hadassah Thrift Shop well into her nineties. She also enjoyed many years of her retirement as an accomplished oil painter. She and Alvin are members of Temple Beth Israel in West Hartford, where Alberta taught religious school in the 1960's. She was a loving and devoted, wife, homemaker, mother and grandmother. Alberta is survived by her husband Alvin Bogin, daughter Carol Bogin of Lexington, MA, daughter Betsy Bogin and her husband Martin Goldfarb of Cheshire, Ct. and cherished grandson, Eric Bogin of Los Angeles, CA. She is also survived by brother-in-law Sidney Bogin, and many nieces and nephews. She was given excellent care at home by wonderful caregivers. Alberta was predeceased by two brothers, Sidney and Sam Baron, and sister-in-law Bee Bogin Levy.
A graveside funeral service was held at the Beth Israel Cemetery in Hartford, with Rabbi Dena Shaffer officiating. The family will observe a private period of mourning.
