Alice Elizabeth Hurlburt

1915 - 2014

Alice Elizabeth (James) Hurlburt passed away quietly at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, CT, on January 1, 2014. She was born March 23, 1915 daughter of the late Clayton and Ann (Cranley) James. Alice leaves her sister, Mary Krenn, seven nieces and nephews, eleven great-nieces and nephews, and eleven great-great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings: Verna, Carolyn, Clayton and Richard. Alice graduated from New Britain High School in 1932 and worked as an Executive Secretary at the Stanley Works. She later married Everett Hurlburt and moved to Roxbury, where she became deeply involved in the community. Alice was supportive of many charitable efforts, and she was especially involved in the development of the Minor Memorial Library in Roxbury. Fifteen years ago Alice moved to The McAuley in West Hartford. Alice was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Roxbury. Alice's family would like to remember and thank Cereta Tyndale who provided care for the last year of her life. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Monday, January 6, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Roxbury, CT. Burial will take place in the spring at the Roxbury Center Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Alice be remembered with memorial donations to the Minor Memorial Library,23 South Street, Roxbury, CT 06783.
