BARR, Allan Ferguson
Allan Ferguson Barr, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2012 after a brave battle with dementia. He was born on August 22, 1931 in Hartford, CT, grew up in Rocky Hill, and raised his family in Wethersfield. Born to Robert D. Barr and Isabelle (Donovan) Barr, Allan served his country faithfully in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Bataan and the USS Oriskany during Korea after graduating from Wethersfield High School. Retired from the U.S. Postal Service, Allan was an avid historian working with the Keeney Memorial Center in Wethersfield. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Ursula (Wolf); daughter Susan Ciccarelli and husband Dr. Ovleto Ciccarelli; daughter Sarah Barr and husband Frederick Brown; five grandchildren - Alessandro, Alyssa, Andre, and Allan Ciccarelli and Makeda Barr-Brown; brother Robert and wife Fran; sister Mary Rios and husband Al; sister-in-law Elsie DeGrandi; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his sister Patricia Anne. Allan will always be remembered for his devotion to his family; his tireless work ethic; his love of the Navy and respect of his shipmates; and for facing life with grace and humor.
There will be no public services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the CT Chapter of the at 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Suite 100, Rocky Hill, CT 06067. Allan may have lost his battle with dementia but hopefully others will win the war. We salute you sailor!
