COOKE, Amy Louise
Amy Louise Cooke (Dibble) (MacGregor), beloved wife of the late Dudley Miner Cooke, died peacefully at home. Born in West Hartford July 19, 1916 and lived in the same home she was born in until she was married in 1940. She graduated William Hale High School in 1934 and was the last class to go to Hall for the whole six years of junior and senior high. She attended Hartford trade school and graduated in 1938, working in Sage Allen in West Hartford and one summer in Sage Allen in Old Saybrook until December 31, 1940. She moved to Wethersfield in December 1941. She was Noble Grand of Martha Washington Rebekahs lodge for five years. She joined Wethersfield Grange #117 and transferred to Lyme Grange #147 when Wethersfield Grange turned in their charter. She was a 50 year member of Wethersfield Grange. She was also a member of Pomona, State and National Grange, joining Pomona in Hartford and National Grange in Burlington, VT. She was also a member of the Wethersfield Chapter of Eastern Star, until they united with Good Student Chapter #17 of South Glastonbury. She was a 50 year member of Eastern Star. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Howard Austin Dibble and Amy Hastings; and her two brothers, Howard Austin Jr. and Richard Sidney. She leaves her daughter Amy Wininger of Old Lyme; her grandson James W. Hock of Rocky Hill; her great-grandchildren, Timothy D. Hock, Rebecca H. Hock and Sydney M. Hock. She also leaves her sister-in-law Alice S. Dibble of Manchester and Ann Cameron of Carolina; her brother and sister-in-law John and Gail Cooke of Maine; and many nieces and nephews. She worked for Charles C. Hart, Singer Sewing Machine Co., G.E. in Wethersfield and Honeywell Inc., in Hartford, retiring in 1982 after working for 21 years. Her family wants to thank Maria of the VNA and the rest of the staff of the VNA for the excellent care she received the last of her life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. There will be a funeral service Monday, Aug 26, 2013, 10 a.m. at the Rocky Hill Congregational Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Calling hours are Sunday, Aug. 25, at 2-4 p.m. at the Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm St. Rocky Hill.
