Arline Scheuy Obituary

On Monday, December 15th , Arline E. Scheuy, dearly loved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend went home to her God and to be reunited with her beloved husband Norman. Born January 11, 1921 in Willimantic, she was the first child of the late George W. and Hattie Mae (Lewis ) Larkins. Excelling in business studies, Arline graduated from Windham High School in 1938 and began her life-long work as a secretary and bookkeeper in the payroll department of American Thread in Willimantic. At a dance at Coventry Lake in the late 1930s she met the love of her life, Norman, and they were married on November 16, 1946 after his return from the South Pacific. They lived in Rockville before settling in Ellington in 1951, where they resided for the rest of their lives. The enduring strength of Arline and Norman's 66-year marriage was rooted in the steadfast honoring of their respective Episcopal and Roman Catholic traditions. Except for the time she lovingly devoted to raising her daughters, Arline was employed in secretarial and bookkeeping positions at Nelson Freightways, St. John's Episcopal Church, and the Savings Bank of Rockville. She culminated her career with nineteen years as the secretary to the principal and bookkeeper at Ellington High School, and retired in 1984 to pursue her favorite past times: assisting her daughters and her friends wherever and whenever needed, babysitting her four grandchildren, and faithfully attending their numerous sporting and academic events with Grandpa. A devoted parishioner of St. John's Episcopal Church, Arline and her dear friends Hazel Kuhnly and Phyllis Sizer formed an ecumenical prayer group in 1952. In 2003, she, Miss Kuhnly, and Mrs. Sizer were commended by the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut for the prayer group which is still in existence today. Arline is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Nancy M. and Mark S. Traut of Manchester and Judith M. and John H. Sizer III of Stafford Springs and Ellington; her grandson John H. Sizer IV and his wife Lisa of Beacon Falls, her grandson Adam S. Traut of Manchester; her granddaughters and their husbands: Jacinda and Nathan Bernier of South Windsor and Jenna and Caine Pincince of Ellington, and seven great grandchildren: Grace, John, and Colby Ann Sizer; America Bernier, and Emily, Cadence, and Matthew Pincince. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Luella and Richard Stahl of North Windham; her sister-in-law Mildred Larkins of Storrs, and seven nieces and nephews. Arline was predeceased by her husband Norman on September 28, 2013, her brother Earl L. Larkins, and her dear friends Katherine and Homer Peckham, Janet and John Furphey, Lorraine and Edward Mamuszka and Hazel Kuhnly. Relatives and friends may join the family at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect Street, Rockville on Friday, December 20 from 3-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church, Route 30, Vernon, on Saturday, December 21st at 11 a.m. and followed by interment at St. Bernard Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, Route 30, Vernon, CT 06066 and Home and Community Health Services Hospice, 101 Phoenix Avenue, P.O. 1199, Enfield, CT 06083. The family is deeply appreciative of Keri, Barbara, Brittany, Pierre, Jeanne, Kathy, Erin, Dionne, Crystal Anne, Stephanie, Kim, Donna, Melissa, and Anna at Evergreen, the Hospice Angels, and the St. John's eucharistic ministers, for their loving care and concern for Arline and her loved ones. I am so saddened by her passing. I will never forget the day I walked into the high school that summer day and Arline asked me if I had a job - she introduced me to Judy and the kids and it was the beginning of the most wonderful friendship. I am so grateful for the fun times I had with Arline and Norman and being a part of the whole family for so many years.
Love to all...
