Obituary Condolences

Arthur William Carney, 85, of Kingfisher Lane, Westbrook, died Sunday (November 9, 2003) after a long illness. He was the husband to Jean Myers Carney. He was born in Mt. Vernon, NY, on November 4, 1918, son of the late Edward and Helen Farrell Carney. He has lived in Westbrook since 1957. He was a retired actor best known as "Ed Norton", with the TV show the "Honeymooners" with Jackie Gleason. He received six Emmys, and one Oscar. The Oscar was for the movie "Harry & Tonto in 1974." He was a veteran serving in the US Army. Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Brian of North Salem, NY, Paul Carney of Westbrook; a daughter, Eileen Carney of Old Saybrook; a brother, Fredrick Carney of New Jersey; six grandchildren, Christopher Reifeiss of Marmaroneck, NY, Kirsten Reifeiss of New York City, NY, Jill Gallagher of Pleasantville, NY, Amanda Carney of Pleasantville, NY, Shaine Carney of Boston, MA, Devin Carney of Old Saybrook; a great grandson Garrett Gallagher of Pleasantville, NY. Private funeral services were held at the Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook. Burial was at the Riverside Cemetery in Old Saybrook.
