WEIL, Rev. Arthur C. Jr.
The Reverend Arthur C. Weil, Jr. a retired pastor of the United Church of Christ passed on January 3, 2013. Mr. Weil was born Dec. 2, 1916 in New York City. He died surrounded by his family. Arthur was the son of Arthur Chester Weil and Theresa Stieglitz Weil. He was educated in New York public schools, graduating from Townsend Harris High School, followed by a year at Taft School in Watertown, CT. He graduated magna cum laude with a degree in economics from Williams College and went on to Yale Divinity School graduating with a Masters of Divinity in 1942. Mr. Weil was ordained into the ministry on July 5, 1942 in the Congregational Church in Williamstown, MA by the Berkshire North Association of the Massachusetts Conference of Congregational Christian Churches. His first parish was in Granby, MA where he met and married Alice Clapp Galusha. He then served a church in Shelburne Falls, MA where he was instrumental in getting the Baptist, Congregational and Episcopal churches together to form Trinity Parish. Mr. Weil served a church in Springfield, MA before coming to Rocky Hill, CT where he served a pastorate of 24 years. The church chapel is named in his honor and he was also named pastor emeritus. Mr. Weil took an active part of the United Church of Christ serving the State Conference on the Board of Directors and on the Finance Committee. After his retirement from Rocky Hill he served as Pastor of Visitation at First Church of Christ Glastonbury. Nationally he was a Director of the Board of Homeland Ministries, Chair of their Committee on Publications for the UCC, and had leadership roles at the Silver Lake Youth conference. Locally, he worked for ecumenicalism by organizing groups both in Rocky Hill and Glastonbury, serving as their president in both towns. Mr. Weil valued a year he spent meeting monthly with an interdenominational sharing group of priests and protestant clergy at Hartford Seminary where also served on their Board of Directors. He also served on the Board of Directors at Yale, was a past president of the Hartford Civitan Club and president of the South Glastonbury AARP. Although he served his parishes and the wider church faithfully, he had a life-long interest in economics and geography. His active life was cut short at the age of 70 with a massive stroke, but not his spirit. Mr. Weil will be remembered most as being caring and compassionate. Besides his wife of 68 years, he is survived by four daughters and their families: Ruth Weil of Palmer, MA, Ann and her husband Robert Dimock of Portland, CT, Joan and her husband John Dunne of Melrose, MA, and Grace and her husband Michael Moran of Huntington, CT; five grandchildren: Peter Dimock, Kristen Zajac, James Dunne, Jennifer Monte and John A. Dunne; and four great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the staff at Avery for their wonderful care that was given to Arthur.
A memorial service is scheduled for Jan. 20, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at First Church of Christ, Glastonbury, 2183 Main St., Glastonbury, CT. The family has requested that memorial gifts be made in lieu of flowers to Rocky Hill Congregational Church or First Church of Christ, Glastonbury.

Reverend Weil was our minister for so many years. A very sweet, wonderful, well spoken man. He agreed to come back to the Congregational Church, after retiring, to marry Dave and myself. My Dad must be happy to welcome Reverend Weil to the Kingdom of Heaven!!
He will be remembered always and missed very much.

Grace and family, I met Grace in third grade when we moved here and met Rev. Weil in church when I signed up for Sunday school. I'll always remember his sweet smile and kind words in church, at his home when I played with Grace, at our pre wedding meetings. All very fond memories of a very wonderful man. He'll be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you all xo

Grace - I am so sorry for you and your family's loss. I remember your dad ... from the girl scout meetings we had in the basement of the church, to that time we did a service dressed up as animals I believe..to the prom party at your house. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I knew Rev. Weil from First Church in Glastonbury and Avery Heights. He always remembered me and greeted me at Avery when I was there visiting my parents, Alan and Diane Miner. He was great friends with my parents because my father was very active in the Glastonbury church and my mom was church secretary there for almost thirty years. I will miss Rev. Weil. He was a great man and a wonderful friend.
