Audrey Welch Obituary

Audrey Dundon Welch, 84, who was known to all as Grammy, of West Hartford has taken her place among the angels after a heroic battle with lung cancer; which she met with dignity, strength, and grace. In fulfillment of her final wishes, she passed peacefully at home surrounded by family, on November 17. Grammy was a proud and devoted mother to Mark, Brian, and baby boy Welch. Her beloved daughter-in-law Cynthia Welch, who she considered one of her own, was also her best friend. She passed on her strength, compassion, and generosity to her grandchildren Amanda, Elizabeth, Cathryn, and Hayley, and her great grandchildren Desiree, Xavier, Rocky, Kenadie, Makinzey, and Audreyanna. Grammy was raised and mentored by her grandmother, Anna Dundon and father Michael Dundon in Wethersfield, CT. She graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1947, and moved on to a long career at Arrow Hart as a selfless provider for her family, who were always her first priority. Calling hours will be from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20 at Rose Hill Funeral Home on 580 Elm Street, Rocky Hill. A memorial service to celebrate her life and legacy will be held on Thursday, November 21, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at St. James's Episcopal Church on 19 Walden Street, West Hartford, CT. Reception to follow. Grammy's family would like to express our extreme gratitude for the exceptional care and compassion we all have received from the Hospice care given from the VNA of Hartford.

Mark, Brian, and family: I am so very sorry to hear of your mother's passing. My fondest memories of Tremont Street always involve the Welch's. From Friday nights at your house watching tv...eating popcorn and 1 soda each...then your Mom playing piano and we would sing "Put another nickel in..in the Nickelodian. All I want is loving you and music, music, music." Or a cookout in your backyard...hamburgers on the grill. Brian wasn't eating his burger. He told his mom, "it didn't taste like McDonalds" Without batting an eye...your mom smashed down on it ...bun and all...til it was 2" thin. "There. Now it is just like McDonalds. EAT IT!"
Your mom was a wonderful lady w/ a big smile and a hearty laugh. I hope your own memories will get you thru today and all your tomorrows.
You are in my thoughts and prayers,
with much love, Betty Fleet-Wallin

I remember the first time I met your mother, we were all at some VFW function and than we all went to the Steak and Ale for dinner. She was such a lovely woman and I'm sure your loss will be deeply felt.

With sympathy,
